Reactive power compensating device

Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce power loss at the time of the pause of lagging load by providing the parallel connection of a lagging reactive power generating device and a phase advancing reactive power generation device with a saturable reactor in series, and impressing the greater part of supply voltage upon the saturable reactor more than the phase advancing reactive power generating device. CONSTITUTION: When lagging reactive power is generated from the lagging load 7, a thyristor switch 4 is controlled by a controller 6 so that phase advancing reactive power is generated from a reactive power compensating device, and a current to flow in an AC reactor 2 is reduced down to a target value, and the phase advancing reactive power generated from the reactive power compensating device and the lagging reactive power the lagging load 7 generates are made equal to each other. On the other hand, when the lagging load 7 is turned into pause, the DC excitation of the saturable reactor 9 is weakened by the controller 10 and the impedance of the saturable reactor 9 is increased in order to reduce remarkably the power loss. Accordingly, almost all of the supply voltage is borne by the saturable reactor 9, and the active current of the reactive power compensating device is decreased sharply. COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio
